Decoding science - reducing risk

Source(s): King's College London

This video produced by The Humanitarian Futures programme at King's College illustrates why it is so important to facilitate quality dialogue between climate scientists and people trying to manage environmental change.

Some of the most renowned scientists and humanitarian policymakers explore how they can work together more effectively to mitigate future humanitarian threats, in a film produced by GO-Science and the Humanitarian Futures Programme at King’s College, London.

Creating and sustaining space for scientists and vulnerable communities to work together to share understanding is a critical step in mitigating greater and more diverse future humanitarian threats in the 21st Century.

“Research into climate science is substantial but investment in making science useful is very small by comparison,” says Emma Visman, HFP’s Futures Manager who has pioneered an exchange initiative involving climate scientists and policy and development experts in the humanitarian sector.

The film explores such questions as “how can communities work with the uncertainties and probabilities” and “can we measure real impact” of humanitarian projects?
