Australia: Adapting to climate change in the farm sector

Source(s): Australian Broadcasting Corporation

Ways of improving climate change adaptation and the connection between between research, government policy and farming practices will be the major issues at the meeting of the Primary Industries Adaptation Research Network (PIARN) in Townswill, Australia this week.

Professor Snow Barlow of PIARN told ABCnews that the second Climate Master Class brings together Australian agriculture's next generation with decision makers and developers of adaptation strategies.

Professor Barlow added that it is about recognising that climate change will bring extremes in weather events.

"It's about getting researchers to work with farmers and looking at how you make your system as resilient as possible when you get these conditions and how do you get better estimates of what rainfall is going to be in the future," he said.
