In this article, M Mizanur Rahman, a development researcher and a programme officer at Islamic Relief Worldwide, states that the initiative of the government of Bangladesh in disaster risk reduction has not that significant until now and urges for a 'disaster management act' is to be promulgated. In the Financial Express, he cites the Global Assessment Report (2011) which shows that cities, especially Dhaka and Sylhet, are vulnerable and ill-prepared for earthquakes and flash floods.
