The Closing Ceremony will express appreciation for the quality contributions and discussions and to seal the commitments made during the Global Platform. The Ceremony will define the next steps and provide the link and coherence between the Global Platform; the development of a post-2015 Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (HFA2); and the preparations of the World Conference for Disaster Reduction in 2015

Session Objectives:

1. To express appreciation to all stakeholders and participants

2. To provide a brief feedback and overview of the key elements and recommendations forged throughout the discussions on disaster risk reduction and the development of a post-2015 DRR framework (HFA2).

3. To explain the next steps that will guide the process between the Global Platform, the development of a post-2015 Disaster Risk Reduction Framework (HFA2); and the preparations of the World Conference for Disaster Reduction in 2015.

4. To express appreciation to Switzerland for hosting the Fourth Session of the Global Platform and hand over to Japan to officially announce their hosting of the World Conference for Disaster Reduction in 2015.

Expected Outcomes

• Participants well informed of the Global Platform’s discussions and objectives and prepared for their active contribution

• Steps defined towards the preparations for the World Conference for Disaster Reduction in 2015


Relevance of the initiative:
The Closing Ceremony will be important symbolically as the end of the Fourth – and last – Session of the current life of the Hyogo Framework for Action (2005-2015). The Closing is also the bridge to the future in terms of key further consultations and the development of a post-2015 framework for disaster risk reduction (HFA2) and the preparations for a new chapter to be concluded at the World Conference for Disaster Reduction in 2015
