The fourth session of the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction, which met from 19-23 May, helped lay the groundwork for the post-2015 development agenda, which highlights resilience to disaster and climate change. - read more »

Disasters struck especially hard in Africa, where communities lacked the resources to cope. The new global agreement on disaster risk reduction ‑ the second Hyogo Framework for Action (HFA2), to be adopted in 2015 ‑ should establish mechanisms to reflect that reality, and more should be done to help communities at risk, as they were not only those most affected by disasters but also those who drove resilience. - read more »

Final deadline to submit a visa application

If you are planning to attend the Global Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction in Geneva, Switzerland you may be required to apply for a visa to enter the country. As the processing of visas will take at least three weeks, the organizers of the Global Platform recommend that you submit a visa application by May 1st at the latest. - read more »
