The High School Students Islands Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day 2017 is organized by the Japanese organizers (Okinawa Prefectural Government and Okinawa Prefectural Board of Education), in cooperation with the UNISDR Office in Japan as the co-organizer, and the Government of Japan and other partners as the supporting organizations.

This second Summit, “High School Students Island Summit on World Tsunami Awareness Day 2017 in Okinawa” is expected to have more than 250 high school student participants from 25 countries, including island countries which in particular have been faced with tsunami challenges. The Summit aims to encourage the high school students to learn each other and become leaders who actively engage in minimizing the impacts of earthquakes and tsunami and play leading roles in the field of disaster risk reduction in their countries.
