Croucher Summer Course 2017 - Research Methodology for Disaster and Medical Humanitarian Response

Since 2013, CCOUC, with the generous support from the Croucher Foundation, has been organizing biennial research methodology training in the field of disaster and humanitarian crisis. This five-day residential course in July 2017 is the third cohort of the training. The Course intends to educate and inspire promising individuals who demonstrate potential in steering research in this field of disaster and humanitarian crisis forward.

Course Framework

  • Principles of research design;
  • Quantitative and qualitative research methods;
  • Latest research methodology development (e.g. Big data initiative in supporting research)
  • Key hot topics in disaster and humanitarian settings (e.g. Sendai Framework, Sustainable Development Goals)
  • From research to practice: implementation and application of field research setting

Applicants' Profile

The Course targets the following cohorts demonstrating keen research interest in disaster and humanitarian context:

  • Post-graduates (health & non-health sectors), with preference given to doctoral degree holders;
  • Early career researchers;
  • Experienced practitioners and policy-makers with research responsibility.

Late applications to the course will not be considered for the scholarship.

Participation Fee

The course fee is HKD 4,000. It covers training materials, coffee breaks and accommodation. The course fee might be waived for very outstanding candidates. Selection will be made based primarily on candidates’ profile.

A limited scholarship might be awarded to outstanding candidates to cover the course fees and/or transportation expenses. 

Visa

Participants are responsible for obtaining a visa for travel to Hong Kong. For details, please consult the local embassy of the People’s Republic of China. Upon request, CCOUC will provide the participant a document supporting his/her visa application.

Accommodation

Accommodation at the Chinese University of Hong Kong will be arranged for 2-8 July 2017. More details to be provided.
