Call for papers
The Knowledge Cities World Summit (KCWS) 2010 is the leading annual event in the research and management of knowledge cities, knowledge societies, knowledge-based development and knowledge ecology.

The third KCWS in Melbourne, Australia (2010) will feature several conversation formats aiming at facilitating knowledge exchange and socialisation amongst summit participants. These include academics, researchers, students, practitioners, managers, decision and policy makers of (non-)government organisations, technology solutions developers, innovators, and urban planners and developers.

Submission procedure
Abstract and full papers should be submitted via Melbourne 2010 Knowledge Cities World Summit . All submitted abstracts and papers will go through a double-blind review by at least two referees.

The review will support the selection process of those abstracts and papers that will be accepted for their presentation at the conference, as well as those to be selected for publication in books and journals.

Publication plan
A Summit Proceeding with ISBN, including all accepted refereed papers, will be published and provided to all registered delegates.

Authors of the best 10–20 per cent of the papers presented at the conference will be invited to adapt their papers for their publication in the following books and special issues of the international journals:

Edited monographs by IGI Global and Emerald Group Publishing
Special Issue of the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Development
Special Issue of the International Journal of Knowledge-Based Organizations
Special Issue of the Journal of Knowledge Management

Summit Awards
Annual Most Admired Knowledge Cities (MAKCi) Award Ceremony will be held during the Summit. Trophies will be given to the representatives of the award winning cities. The best paper awards will be given in two categories of Open and Postgraduate student.

The second Knowledge Cities Summit
The second Knowledge Cities Summit was recently held in Shenzhen, China and is the only forum of its kind that brings together experts from around the world to discuss the knowledge city design, knowledge transfer and knowledge ecology.

More than 200 delegates from over 25 countries and territories gathered in Shenzhen from 5 to 6 November 2009 to attend The Second Knowledge Cities Summit. The summit was jointly hosted by the Knowledge Management Research Centre of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), the Shenzhen Academy of Social Sciences and Shenzhen Graduate School of the Harbin Institute of Technology.

Themed "Emerging Knowledge Cities", experts from world renowned organizations and universities as well as overseas government officials were invited to deliver keynote speeches at the Summit.

Among them were:

Dr Bror Salmelin, Advisor of the European Commission who gave a presentation on the "Participative Innovation as Driver for Knowledge Intense Service"
Helen Steel, Manager of the Office of Knowledge Capital, City of Melbourne, who shared the experience of Melbourne as Australia’s Knowledge Capital
Mr Markku Markkula, Director and Team Leader of Societal Impact Aalto University and former MP Parliament of Finland who talked about the Concepts and Practices towards Knowledge and Innovation Cities
