About

The meeting on the implementation of the Regional Plan of Action on Sand and Dust Storms in Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP/78/12/Add.1) will be held in person and online on 24 and 25 July 2023, at the margins of the eighth session of the Committee on Disaster Risk Reduction of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) which will be held at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok from 25 to 27 July 2023.

The seventy-eighth session of the Commission in 2022 endorsed the Regional Plan of Action on Sand and Dust Storms in Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP/78/12/Add.1). The Regional Plan of Action provides a strategic framework and reference for countries in the region to take action at the national and regional levels, in the context of multi-hazard disaster risk reduction, to reduce the negative impact of sand and dust storms and identify anthropogenic measures that could contribute to or mitigate their formation and intensity. ESCAP encourages a broad and active participation of government officials and other stakeholders involved with matters related to sand and dust storms, including those working on disaster risk reduction, agriculture, health, environment, transport, clean energy production, and weather forecasting, with a view to attend these meetings and contribute to the discussion. For online participation, please fill out the registration form here. The meeting connection links will be sent to all registered participants.
