International Day for Disaster Reduction Celebration in Thailand

In the scope of International Day for Disaster Reduction (IDDR) and ASEAN Day on Disaster Management (ADDM) 2017 on October 13th each year, the Relief and Community Health Bureau (RCHB) of Thai Red Cross Society (TRCS) organized activities to raise awareness and disseminate knowledge about Disaster Risk Reduction to general public.

This year, the RCHB in collaboration with Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM), government and private partners as well as civil societies held the annual activity under the concept of “Safe and Resilient Communities for Resilient ASEAN”.

Activities included:

  • Exhibition on the “King’s Philosophy on Disaster Risk Reduction for Sustainability”
  • Cartoon and short films screening
  • Distribution of ADDM&IDDR Annual Report 2017
  • Distribution of IEC materials

Target audience/beneficiaries

General public, TRCS staff and volunteer, government and private sector network as well as civil societies

The Thai Red Cross Society celebrated International Day for Disaster Reduction with the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies and other partners in Bangkok, holding a seminar on the theme “Safe and Resilient Communities for Resilient ASEAN.” About 300 people attended the seminar which also feature an exhibition. The event was supported by an online campaign.
