ENSEMBLES final symposium – a changing climate in Europe
Symposium content
The three-day symposium will present key results from the ENSEMBLES climate change project and is aimed at expert users of climate change research, decision-makers and climate scientists. There will be a discussion session every day on the results presented in addition to the 'Q+A' at the end of every presentation.
There will be a series of formal briefings from lead scientists of the project themes with opportunity for individual discussion.
Presentation of results of direct relevance to decision-makers, including:
-quantifying and reducing uncertainty in model projections
-extreme climate events in the 21st century
-climate change impacts in the 21st century
-stabilising GHG emissions at 450 p.p.m. CO2 eq.
The ENSEMBLE prediction system:
-global climate models
-regional climate models
-climate impact models
-probabilistics and uncertainty
Reducing uncertainty in:
-climate feedbacks and 'climate surprises'
-the carbon cycle
-climate change, variability and extreme events
-climate observations
-scenarios, including socio-economic feedbacks
Projections of climate change impacts:
-probabilistics in impacts models
-climate change impacts by system/sector
Future research directions:
-lessons learned
-relevance of climate change research to society
