The basic course is a pre-requisite for seven specialized courses under the Natural Disaster Risk Management Programme. An introductory course for development
practitioners, gives an overview of the major disaster risk management issues. It raises awareness of the growing risk of natural disasters and promotes a culture of prevention.

The course reviews the institutional arrangements and financing mechanisms of disaster management systems, and identifies the role of national and local actors in the processes related to risk assessment, mitigation and financing.

Course format:

The course consists of self-paced modules, interactive discussion forum, knowledge checks, readings, case studies, final test and highly competent subject matter experts.

Target audience:

National and Local government officials; disaster and response managers; NGO staff members and development workers and academicians working on DRR
