From Agreements to Action: What Next for the New Global Framework on Disasters?

Disasters can have a huge impact on people’s lives and livelihoods. They can be a significant barrier to sustainable development and can often prevent people from escaping poverty or pull people back into it. In March this year, countries from around the world adopted a new international framework which aims to substantially reduce the impact of disasters over the next 15 years.

But what does this framework actually say? How can it be financed and implemented? What does it mean for science? And what bearing will it have on the forthcoming Sustainable Development Goals and climate change deal?

This PolicyLab brought together a panel of international experts to explore these questions and discuss the challenges of implementing the framework in the UK and worldwide.
