After the storm: The Philippines copes with catastrophe

This report gives a financial account of the situation in the Philippines following the typhoon Haiyan (called Yolanda in the Philippines), which caused great devastation in Leyte province and the surrounding area. It argues that the economic impact has been less severe on a national scale, especially on industries, which were devastated but not destroyed, and calls on the Philippines to step up its infrastructure spending, highlighting the structural challenge that must be addressed – low investment in infrastructure and inadequate disaster preparedness.
