Guidelines for mainstreaming the needs of older persons in disaster situations in the Caribbean


This publication takes a look at older people in disaster situations, with a particular focus on the Caribbean, and provides an overview of considerations to ensure that this vulnerable group of people has the required response to their needs in disasters. This paper focuses on: (i) aging, health, and vulnerability to disaster; (ii) older persons as resources in disasters; (iii) recommendations for action in residential care facilities and shelters; and (iv) recommendations for action during hurricanes and floods, earthquakes, and fires.
