UN General Assembly 67th session: Statement delivered at the General Debate - Suriname

A statement delivered to the 67th General Assembly annual General Debate by the Minister for Foreign Affairs of Suriname, in which he highlighted the very serious matter, considering the threat of climate change, constituted by the successful outcome of the efforts of small states like Suriname towards achieving sustainable development. He called on the international community not to abandon its obligation to provide the necessary means to combat serious consequences of over-consumption, pollution, and carbon emissions, which threaten to undo Suriname's achievements in protecting the environment and securing the well-being of its peoples. He added that Suriname expected from the United Nations to spearhead the efforts for technical assistance and to advance the continuation of the dialogue.
