Mapping the impacts of recent natural disasters and technological accidents in Europe
Environmental issue report, no. 35.
This report brings together information about natural disasters and technological accidents that have occurred across Europe in recent years and their impacts on the environment and society. The report concentrates on the period 1998-2002 but includes preliminary information for 2003 wherever possible. The report does not try to discern trends in extreme events themselves, for instance whether they are becoming more frequent. Its focus is on mapping the human, economic and environmental impacts of such events in Europe over the period. The overviews at the start of each chapter indicate the extent of these impacts for the major events.
