The R!SE initiative is an ambitious global response to a daunting global challenge, a new way of collaborating, to unlock the potential for public and private sector actors who are ready and willing to make a step forward and take leadership on disaster risk reduction.
The overall goal of the initiative is to make all investments risk-sensitive. R!SE will facilitate the exchange of experience and knowledge to implement tangible disaster risk reduction projects through 8 streams of activities: Strategies for global business, risk metrics for economic forecasting, industry sector certification, education, principles for responsible investing, resilience of cities, insurance, and resilience of UN programming.
R!SE was official launched on 19 May 2014 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York, by the Deputy Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Special Representative of the Secretary-General for Disaster Risk Reduction.
R!SE aims to create three instruments of change by identifying specific opportunities for value creation for collaborating stakeholders through the development of concrete projects that are aligned with R!SE vision and objectives
1. Information: Make risk information available and accessible to create the case for change and for investing in society resilience
2. Application: Create the practical tools so that risk information can be applied in our societies
3. Education: Changing the education of our societies by incorporating Disaster Risk Management (DRM) information to understand underlying drivers or risk
