PhD in Understanding and Managing Extremes: Curriculum in Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology

The 2018/2019 edition of the Earthquake Engineering and Engineering Seismology (ROSE) curriculum of the PhD Programme in Understanding and Managing Extremes (UME) is being offered by the UME Centre of the IUSS Pavia. The PhD courses aim to provide students the highest quality training with an unique scientific and professional expertise and advanced knowledge of the cultural, technical and managerial characteristics of earthquake engineering and engineering seismology.
The syllabus offers a comprehensive set of subjects covering applied mechanics, structural engineering, earthquake engineering, engineering seismology and soil dynamics, with emphasis on both theoretical background and design considerations. The fundamental fields of instruction include aspects of seismology, geology, geotechnics, behaviour of materials and structures, structural analysis, design of new structures and upgrading of existing structures.

Applications are currently open for the 2018/2019 year. The deadline is 9 March 2018 at 13:00 CET.
Interested applicants are asked to enter their email address on the application start page (IUSS on-line application). A message will then be sent to the provided address, supplying you with a verification link, clicking on which you will reach again the application start page. At this stage you will receive a second message providing you with a password. At the end of this security procedure, you have username (i.e. your email address) and password to actually access the application form and start your application.
In order to complete the application form you must upload the following documents:
- Curriculum vitae et studiorum
- Copy of the diploma certificate (in Italian or English)
- Transcript of the attended courses and professional qualifications (in Italian or English)
- Copy of the passport or the identity card
- English language test certificate (or waiver referring to previous courses, work experience in English speaking countries, etc...)
