Practical lessons for recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic: Principles for recovery

Source(s):  International Recovery Platform (IRP)

This publication offers a set of guiding, action-oriented principles and practical cases to support each of these recovering communities as they plan and implement recovery from this crisis. The principles focus on key cross-cutting issues and offers a roadmap of options to help guide recovery efforts, based on applied disaster recovery experience, and established methods and evidence.

The paper examines eight principles for recovery:

  1. Recovery must begin buring the ongoing response;

  2. Inclusive, people-centred recovery to leave no one behind;

  3. Transparent evidence-based decision-making;

  4. Build back better and greener;

  5. Preserve development gains;

  6. Greater regional and global solidarity;

  7. Institutionalize effective coping mechanisms;

  8. Effective risk communication.
