A Practitioner’s perspective on disaster risk management in Latin America and the Caribbean, March 2014:

This issue addresses the urbanization trends, a surge in economic investments and increasing climate-related hazards implemented by the state-level authorities in Rio de Janeiro for understanding the underlying causes of disaster risk and prevention measures. It describes the state government of Rio de Janeiro and the World Bank’s LCSDU team activities in developing a number of DRM interventions aimed at tackling the complex nature of disaster events in Brazil. Moreover, authorities are under great pressure to address these risks and improve resilience to climate change impacts being in the spotlight on the country for the 2014 World Cup and the 2016 Summer Olympics.
