International day for disaster reduction: Tashkent, Uzbekistan - 2013

This issue reports on this year’s international day for disaster reduction (IDDR) observation in Uzbekistan by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in close cooperation with the Ministry of Emergency Situations of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Academy of Science and other relevant stakeholders involved into disaster risk reduction (DRR) process as well as all UN Agencies working in Uzbekistan. It reports on activities related to: (i) reducing the risk of damages and injuries caused by earthquake; (ii) monitoring of implementation of construction code on seismic safety of individual houses; (iii) students’ debates on “Disaster risk reduction - key to build disaster resilient nations”; and (iv) exhibition of achievements in the field of DRR.
