Collective actions for resilient urban areas

Source(s):  Islamic Relief Worldwide
National Alliance for Risk Reduction and Response Initiatives (NARRI)

This document introduces an approach towards urban disaster risk reduction in which urbanization is believed to be both a cause and effect of economic growth, employment generation and overall development of a country. It looks at the various aspects of how Islamic Relief Worldwide (IRW) builds disaster preparedness into this phenomenon for an overall risk reduction in urban areas. It also captures IRW's approach in urban areas, where communities have been empowered with a very good knowledge level on disaster risk reduction, response capacity in case of emergency, and coordination with different relevant bodies to assess and minimize their risks.
