Kiribati Joint Implementation Plan for Climate Change and Disaster Risk Management

The aim of the Kiribati Joint Implementation Plan (KJIP) is to support the implementation of holistic approaches on climate actions (i.e., across multiple sectors and with stronger linkages among climate adaptation planning processes at national, sectoral and island levels). The KJIP is an integrated plan that prioritises 104 climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction actions. Ultimately, the purpose of the plan is to enhance coordination and access to financial and technical support to accelerate the implementation of actions on climate adaptation and disaster risk reduction.
The KJIP is building on and intended to strengthen existing implementation, financing and monitoring functions by integrating them with climate change and disaster risk management considerations. In addition, it is designed to strengthen coordination and communication among the Office of Te Beretitenti, Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration and line ministries as well as civil society, the private sector and development partners. The KJIP vision, goal, strategies and results will be disseminated by all implementing partners through existing information-sharing networks, media and forums at international, regional, national and local levels. This work will align with the Kiribati Climate Change and Climate Risk Communications Strategy that is currently being reviewed.
