Mission

UMS (Unified Messaging Systems) was founded in 1997. UMS facilitates Early Warning Systems (EWS) and Mass Notification Systems to a global market and has more real life EWS implementations than any other entity worldwide. UMS has several patents and patent applications, which makes it unique in the industry for its technological and life saving capabilities. UMS assists authorities in putting together the best possible customized solution carefully balancing their needs and available budget. UMS has offices in Norway, Sweden, Denmark and India and operates globally.

Disaster Reduction Goal

UMS aims to provide the best possible EWS solutions allowing countries and organizations to reduce the economic and human impact from crisis and natural disasters.

Membership in Key Networks

UMS is a member of the Disaster Risk Reduction - Private Sector Partnership (DRR-PSP) and has committed to the 5 Essentials for Business in Disaster Risk Reduction.

Risk assessment and early warning systems (HFA 2)

UMS supplies its Population Alert System (PAS) to a global market. PAS is an early warning system providing geo targeted alerts to the population through multiple channels.

The system gives an immediate overview of the number of people affected and identifies their nationality allowing the
authorities to alert those at risk in their native language.
This feature gives the authorities an instant overview of the situation and makes it easier to scale the number of
emergency personnel needed. The system also monitors and localizes citizens that responded to be in need of help. This allows the authorities to use available resources as efficiently as possible.

PAS includes patented technologies to avoid overload and
congestion both in fixed-line and mobile networks.

Education, information and public awareness (HFA 3)

During the last year UMS has interviewed leaders in disaster management in 65 countries all over the world to get a better understanding of the countries’ risk profiles, current and planned EWS and what type of EWS functionality they would like to see in the future. The data was collated, analyzed and presented in a report that has been distributed to the interviewees and some international organizations The report allows leaders in DM to compare their thinking with that of colleagues in other countries and should help them make better decisions regarding their own EWS developing path.

Preparedness for effective response (HFA 5)

PAS contains a simulation module that allows the operators to train regularly to be better prepared if and when a real crisis has to be taken care of.
