Identification and assessment of disaster risks, and development of risk maps and related information to decision makers and the local communities; and support the development and sustainability of infrastructure to observe and forecast hazards, vulnerabilities and disaster impacts.
Promote community based training initiatives, to enhance local capacities to mitigate and cope with disasters, and ensure equal access for women and vulnerable groups.
Integrate DRR planning into health sector, and into planning procedures for infrastructure projects; protect and strengthening critical public facilities and physical infrastructure, like schools, rural health centers, water and power plants through proper design retrofitting and re-building.
Strengthen institutional capacities in local disaster management, including those related to training, human and material resources, and develop mechanisms to engage participation and ownership of relevant stakeholders including communities in DRR.
Education (building and improving public sector education facilities, provision of furniture, equipment, and teaching material, training and capacity building of stakeholders).
Water Management & Community Physical Infrastructure (drinking water supply schemes, water management systems, micro hydro power projects, link roads, pathways and footbridges, storm/wastewater drains, sanitation facilities, facilitating coordination between communities and government departments)
Health (Providing training healthcare services and building capacity of stakeholders, providing pharmaceutical support, appointing medical staff, building and improving public sector health facilities, providing furniture and equipment on need basis, facilitating coordination between stakeholders)
Environment (Providing mechanisms’ that reduce pollution and create sustainable waste management systems to protect eco fragile areas, helping marginalized communities develop alternative sources of income, trainings, and coordination between stakeholders)
Relief and Rehabilitation (Providing humanitarian assistance, supporting early recovery and rehabilitation, rebuilding destroyed education and health infrastructure, restoring community physical infrastructure, empowering communities to convert adversity into opportunity)
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
