Mission

AFOSC is a community based organization based in Wajir and Mandera County of Northern Kenya, a non-profit entity working for the empowerment of nomadic communities at community level on disaster mitigation and preventions. Among the many issues that AFOSC addresses within its strategy includes high level of illiteracy, poverty, poor health services, water shortages, poor sanitation and environmental degradation.

Disaster Reduction Goal

It's part of our core objectives and in line with our policies to work on DRR at community level and country level. The benefit this offers to our organization is that it adds value on what we are already doing in terms of carrying out country assessments on literacy and numeracy in the whole country and build our capacity. Our focus over time has been working with communities, generating evidence on issues affecting the vulnerable while promoting evidence based research. As a learning organization, we have a pool of knowledge generated within our network of non-state actors in areas dealing with water, sanitation, hygiene and most important education.
