Mission

The DRFN is dedicated to creating and furthering awareness and understanding of arid environments and developing the capacity, skills and knowledge to manage arid environments appropriately. The DRFN is a centre for arid land studies that conducts and facilitates appropriate, participatory and applied short- and long term research on the environment. It is an independent, non-governmental organisation dedicated to sustainable use of Namibia's environment.

Disaster Reduction Goal

Enhanced knowledge and understanding by decision makers of natural environmental variation as preparation for sustainable use and disaster mitigation. E.g. variable rainfall means that dry periods are natural and not all rainfall less than average is a drought requiring government action.

Making disaster risk reduction a policy priority, institutional strengthening (HFA 1)
