- To work towards reducing death and suffering–particularly among children—due to natural hazards in the most vulnerable communities through preparedness and mitigation.
- To reduce disaster losses by helping vulnerable communities recognize their risk and the methods to manage it.
- To identify and promote strategies, potential practices and programs that support comprehensive school safety.
- To educate communities and organise various kinds of awareness raising and training programmes regarding natural hazards and possible preparedness measures.
- To promote disaster safety in communities by developing awareness generation materials.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DISASTER RISK REDUCTION 2016 AT KOLKATA
The Excellous Society is pleased to announce that its flagship event the International Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction (ICDRR2016) will be hosted at Kolkata, India, 26th - 27th March 2017.
The Asia Pacific region faces over 60% of the world’s natural disasters. A new United Nations global assessment report on disaster risk, May, 2015, says India's average annual economic loss due to disasters is estimated to be $9.8 billion. This includes more than $7 billion loss on account of floods, landslides which includes West Bengal & north east region.
"The report is a wake-up call for countries to increase their commitment to invest in smart solutions to strengthen resilience to disasters," says UNDRR". The Sendai Framework adopted by UN Member States for Disaster Risk Reduction 2015-2030 (Sendai Framework) is the first major agreement of the post-2015 development agenda, with seven targets and four priorities for action.
A key objective of the ICDRR 2016 is to raising the voice and to educate how to reduce disaster risk, but also that responsibility should be shared with stakeholders including local government, the private sector and other stakeholder in every possible way. The substantial reduction of disaster risk and losses in lives, livelihoods and health and in the economic, physical, social, cultural and environmental assets of persons, businesses, communities and countries.
It is expected that 250 people including both international and domestic delegates, will attend the ICDRR 2016 Conference which will be held at the Kolkata, the City of Joy during end of March 2016.

Excellous Society (ES) is independent and non political, not-for-profit organisation working towards making the country´s most vulnerable communities safer from natural and other hazards, through preparedness and mitigation. The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
