The University Centre for Studies and Research on Disaster (CEPED/PR) is a result of the restructuring of the State System of Protection and Civil Defense and was created by State Decree No. 9557 of 6 December 2013. Its purpose is different from its design, since it aims to stimulate, aggregate and form a network of cooperative universities (public and private) around the actions necessary for disaster risk reduction. It is an advisory body of the State System of Protection and Civil Defense - SEPDEC. It relates also to the State Council for the Protection and Civil Defense - CEPRODEC, with Protection Division and Civil Defense - DPDC and the Regional Coordinating Protection and Civil Defense - CORPDEC.
Among its responsibilities is to find new ways to raise funds for research, education and extension, as well as supporting institutions interested in notices wishing to rely on the support of CEPED, which ensures the Paraná State's interest in obtaining its results.
- Support the realization of scientific research focused at reducing disaster risk in the state of Paraná;
- Stimulate Teaching and extension for the dissemination of knowledge focused on the disaster reduction;
- Technological-innovation;
- Act as a network with Institutions of Higher Education, institutes, research centers and cooperated foundations;

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
