Mission

Swayam Shikshan Prayog (SSP) is a learning and development organization that aims to bring women and poor communities from the margin to the mainstream of development by forging partnerships with institutional actors and providing planning and technical support for community driven development.

Disaster Reduction Goal

Disaster crisis represents bot h danger and an impetus long‐term development. SSP is committed to building resilience in the face of sudden climate threats and increased disaster risk. In the last decade, SSP and its grassroots networks have led the innovation and transfer of community led recovery by restoring livelihoods, educating owners on safe construction, training
masons and setting up sustainable federations and enterprises.

SSP is a global and national leader on community led recovery and building resilience of women and communities in the face of disasters and sudden climate crisis. SSP and its grassroots networks have spearheaded innovations, a highlight being the Community Disaster Resilience Fund, which puts funds directly into the hands of local women’s networks. SSP partners with GROOTS International and Huairou Commission to ensure that grassroots priorities are brought to the national and global disaster-reduction agendas.

Policies and Programmes in DRR

In India, SSP is founder member of the National Alliance on DRR‐ disaster risk reduction which has initiated a pilot effort in 8 states around creating a Community Resilience Fund that places funds directly in the hands of local groups and governments for DRR work.
