Mission

The African Youths Organization (AYO) aims to build community disaster resilience and support local-level implementation of the Hyogo Framework for Action in Nigeria.

A comprehensive approach to disaster risk reduction requires a combination of changes in practices at the local level with changes to national and international policies. The African Youths Organization (AYO)  works to forward disaster risk reduction at the local level.

Disaster Reduction Goal

The Nigeria DRR/CA is conducted with a clear focus on national and state capacities for DRR using the indicators set for the implementation of the HFA. The DRR/CA looked into five technical areas of capacity development: (i) ownership, (ii) institutional arrangements, (iii) competencies, (iv) working tools and resources, and (v) relationships/coordination. For the HFA Priority 1, the Capacity Assessment (CA) focuses on the level of national and State ownership as a basis for creating the enabling environment for DRR, in order to guarantee the sustainability of the capacity development process.

AYO's main goal for Resilience is to convene community leaders and innovators to advocate for policies and programs that advance pro-poor, climate resilient development.

The African Youths Organization represents an opportunity for communities vulnerable to disaster and climate change to play a key role in agenda-setting and disaster risk reduction implementation.

Policies and Programmes in DRR

1. Mobilization and documentation of views and experiences on disaster risk issues for African Youths, action plan for Disaster Risk Reduction for African Youths with some designated programmes approved by President of African Youths Prince Bright Akinola.
