Mission

Ministry of Infrastructure was the former Ministry of Transport, but Government's commitment to streamlining the public service and undertaking its reform program to achieve a more effective, efficient and affordable services for the public continues with strong momentum. To this end, Cabinet revised the New Government Structure to 14 Ministries, effective from 1 May 2012.
The Ministry of Infrastructure provides sustainable infrastructure for the citizen and business communities of Tonga.

Improving the resilience of the people and communities to all hazards

Policies and Programmes in DRR

Intergration of DRR into the National Development Framework

Making disaster risk reduction a policy priority, institutional strengthening (HFA 1)

Capacity development of NEMO. A new Project Manager will be recruited this month to lead various DRR projects

Risk assessment and early warning systems (HFA 2)

Tsunami Inundation Modelling for Tongatapu. With implementation of pilot siren for eaarly warning SPC/SOPAC

Education, information and public awareness (HFA 3)

Using the above Inundation Modelling to inform stakeholders and develop Evacuation Centres and Evacuation Routes

Reducing underlying risk factors (HFA 4)

Health Sector Plan under way

Preparedness for effective response (HFA 5)

Workshop on developing and reinforcing the district level at the two islands group of Vavau and Haapai
