Mission

Le News is a free, quality, local English language newspaper launched on 31 October 2013. Le News fills a gap in local Swiss media for the numerous English-speakers living and visiting Switzerland. In late January 2015 we decided to put our print medium on hold and focus on our digital media presence.

Despite exposure to seismic risk, few Swiss homeowners have quake insurance

According to reinsurer, Swiss Re, over 75% of private buildings in Switzerland have no earthquake coverage. As earthquakes are rare and quickly forgotten, Swiss public risk perception is low, even with its well developed insurance culture. A 6.2 magnitude earthquake in central Switzerland could damage 75,000 buildings, affect 500,000 people and cost CHF 17.6 billion.

The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
