Founded in 1985, the Centre for Development and Emergency Practice (CENDEP) is a multidisciplinary centre in Oxford, UK that brings together academics, development practitioners and policy makers. The center's work concentrates on:
- human rights and forced migration;
- inclusive recovery, disasters and development;
- conflict, humanitarian action and peacebuilding;
- shelter, housing and home in crises.
The Centre's Masters course: MA Global Development and Humanitarian Practice (GDHP) engages with disasters, risks, and climate change as a core theme. The course modules: 'Shelter after disaster' and 'Disasters, Risks, Vulnerability and Climate Change' challenge students to think through creative solutions for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and challenges after disasters and the effects of climate change. Students are challenged to think through the intersectionality of Development, Disasters, Human Rights and Environmental Refugees issues in critical ways.
The Sendai Framework Voluntary Commitments (SFVC) online platform allows stakeholders to inform the public about their work on DRR. The SFVC online platform is a useful toolto know who is doing what and where for the implementation of the Sendai Framework, which could foster potential collaboration among stakeholders. All stakeholders (private sector, civil society organizations, academia, media, local governments, etc.) working on DRR can submit their commitments and report on their progress and deliverables.
