"This initiative further endorses one of the essentials the city has met in terms of acquiring ‘role model status’ as part of the UN’s International Strategy for Disaster Reduction – My City is Getting Ready Campaign," said JP Smith, Capetown's mayoral committee member for safety and security.

The New Age reported that the city’s Disaster Risk Management (DRM) has signed a cooperation agreement with the Swartland municipality to institute an early warning system which ensures that the DRM centre will be notified in the event of heavy rainfall which may result in the Diep River flooding.
