As co-chairs of the UN Secretary-General's High-level Panel on Global Sustainability, the President of the Republic of South Africa Jacob Zuma and the President of the Republic of Finland Tarja Halonen provide in Today some insights on their work with 20 of the world's most eminent leaders. They suggest to strengthen resilience by promoting disaster risk reduction, adaptation and sound safety nets for the most vulnerable to tackle the massive challenge of retooling the global economy, preserving the environment and providing greater opportunity and equity, including gender equality, to all.

This is one of the five suggestions they offer on the basis of the panel's report, Resilient People, Resilient Planet. The other suggestions include: to measure and price what matters; to put science at the centre of sustainability; to provide incentives to take the long view; and to value equity as opportunity.
