India: Experts lament builders' apathy for disaster mitigation

The Times of India reports that even though disaster strikes without much advance notice, there is a rule that states that buildings in disaster-prone area have to be made suited to the environment where it is situated, but most construction companies fail to follow the disaster mitigation procedures in the construction of buildings in Kerala, says P G Gopalakrishnan, chairman of the Indian Institute of Engineers (IIE), Kerala Chapter, on Thursday.
