Algeria: Storms spur flood-prevention measures
Government officials are hastening to prepare the country for extreme weather events, reports the Magharebia news agency, with a programme of investments and local planning.
"Algeria has set aside a budget of about 40 billion [dinars] as part of its 2010-14 five year programme to protect Algerian towns and cities against flooding,' said government official Hacen Aït Amara.
"A map of all flood-prone areas in Algeria is being drawn up so that places at risk can be identified," he added.
