89 per cent of New Jersey residents living in coastal areas would like to see the government enforcing storm-resistant building codes, according to a poll by the Monmouth University Polling Institute quoted by N.J.com.

In his opinion piece Barry Chalofsky, P.P., former chief of the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection’s storm water and ground water programs warns that "At some point, I believe that the economic and human cost of rebuilding will be too great to bear. Given the fact that climate change has the potential to wreak havoc in a number of different ways, i.e. more droughts, more severe storms, more frequent wildfires and rising sea level, we need to start doing more planning to adapt to these changes rather than just react."
