Acción contra el Hambre - Spain (ACF - Spain)


ACF-Spain and its Disaster Risk Reduction Department is developping and implementing DRR actions in nine countries in Central America, Africa, Middle East and South East Asia. These activities are related to mitigation of disaster events, early warning systems and all actions linked to the reduction of people vulnerability to potential disasters (droughts, floods, landslides, cyclones, earthquake, tsunami, etc.) The department is also in charge of research and development of tools related to GIS and Remote Sensing.


Action Against Hunger is an international humanitarian aid presence in over 44 countries. It has an approximately 5,500 workers. The student will assist with common tasks and daily department to obtain an overview of the functioning of the department.

The student will participate in:

• Conduct a comprehensive review of the literature on technical options related to the detection of the proliferation of water hyacinth.
• Make technical decisions appropriate to the needs for development of a treatment tool to help monitor the spread of water hyacinth in view of the technical and financial sustainability.
• Porse contact reference persons worldwide.
• produce a treatment schedule to achieve a processing algorithm.
• Outline the development of a processing tool for automatic or semi-automatic image.
• Produce a full report of the methodological and technical references.

Required profile

• Master GIS - Remote sensing or equivalent.
• Rigorous, flexible and interest for humanitarian issues
• Knowledgable of GIS - Remote Sensing - Programming
• Capacity to perform research activities
• Experience in Photointerpretation and programmation. Some experiences in tropical environment will be valued.
• English compulsory
