Job summary

The Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters –CRED located within the Institute for Health and Society of the University of Louvain in Brussels, has over thirty years of research experience in the field of public health and epidemiology of natural disasters and civil conflicts. It works closely with several UN agencies, the European Commission, the World Bank and other universities and research organisations across the world. This vacancy is for a full time IT Specialist with a minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience. The successful applicant will work within a small, dynamic and multi‐cultural team consisting of open minded and creative researchers. The job may involve international travels.

Key responsibilities

• Programming and maintenance of databases;
• Maintenance and enhancement of websites, development of web tools and web services;
• Software development;
• Maintenance and administration of server based in Linux (RedHat, Centos, Fedora) and Windows environment. Good knowledge of scripting and shell management is an asset;
• Maintenance and good knowledge of networks, protocols and security (firewall + antivirus);
• Implementing web application based on Drupal. Contribute to the development of advanced search tools, creating functional specifications, analysis and technical design of the architecture;
• Responsible for development and system integration of Drupal applications (beta and production of websites) testing, installing and perform activities;
• Help desk for the centre.

Minimum job requirements

• Good knowledge of databases languages (including MySQL, SQL, PostgreSQL)
• Experience with conceptual, logical and physical database design
• Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and data visualization
• Good knowledge in Drupal, and PHP, HTML, JavaScript, JQuery, Ajax and CSS; other open source solution is an asset
• Experience administering a Content Management System (CMS) is an asset
• Interested in technological advancements and new tools and able to show independent initiative in the development of solutions
• Fluent French and English are required
• Must be able to work in a team, be flexible and operate in non‐hierarchical structures
