Launch of the Global Model for Earthquake Social Vulnerability and Resilience (SVR)

Organizer(s) Understanding Risk Global Earthquake Model Foundation (GEM)
Date

Social Vulnerability and Resilience (SVR) modelling is an important aspect of not just understanding risk but also in reducing disaster risk at any given scale. SVR modelling can give disaster management professionals, especially at the country level, the ability to anticipate an impact that goes beyond physical damage or casualties from earthquakes.

On December 3rd, GEM will officially launch its methods, metrics, and tools for the global assessment of social vulnerability and integrated risk from earthquakes at the virtual 2020 Understanding Risk Forum side event.

The event will also be an important opportunity to discuss how the GEM SVR methodology for assessing social vulnerability and resilience to earthquakes can be applied to other hazard impacts, including disease or other natural hazards.
