Environmental Protection and Conservation (EPCO) is a local NGO founded in 1988 in the Republic of Mauritius. Its main goal and objectives is the protection and conservation of the environment to allow future generations to enjoy it. This year EPCO has been funded a project by the NCSR Foundation on Climate Change. The title of the project is ‘Enhancing resilience of vulnerable communities to climate change in Mauritius’. The goal of the project is to educate and sensitize inhabitants of the Republic of Mauritius on the causes and effects of Climate Change. This will be done by moving to nine villages in nine districts in Mauritius an explaining the people more on climate change. A 3D interactive mobile exhibition will be used in those nine villages to explain the people more on climate change and how they should prepare themselves in case of a natural calamity caused by climate change.

To launch the project, EPCO has decided to choose its first village on its list which is Goodlands. The date of the launch was Saturday 12 October 2019 at the Farmers Service Centre in Goodlands from 9h45 to 14h00. The opening was done in the morning at 10h00. The exhibition was then open to the public till 14h00 pm. This process will carry on in the remaining 8 villages until the project is completed by next year. The 12 October has been chosen specially as it coincides with the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction which is celebrated globally every year on 13 October. More than 200 participants visited the exhibition and we distributed more than 200 plants.
