Course Overview

The 5-day Bootcamp covers the required organization, processes, systems, competencies, tools and plans needed to build a personal institution’s Integrated Emergency Management System (IEMS). This is part of EMI’s Training, Exercises and Drills Program. In this bootcamp, will be possible to learn how to coordinate effective response for a major disaster event under extreme conditions with increasing demands and limited resources. Working with peers, will be possible to develop concepts of operations for response, build prototypes for an emergency operations center (EOC), and set up standard operating procedures (SOP).

The problem solving building-block activities of the bootcamp uses stress-test disaster scenarios from single incidents to worse case emergency situations. There will be hands-on exercises which will allow participants to align the EOC with international standards to scale up the personal response capacities by taking advantage of decades emergency management experience worldwide.

IEMS is a global, structured, and results-proven approach that puts the guessing out of managing emergencies and instead, puts the participant in control.

In 5 days, the participatns will develop the skills and tools to manage all types of emergencies for any organizations:

  • Concept of Operations for worst-case response operations
  • An assessment of the EOC organization relative to international best practices
  • A 3D printed rendering of a personal EOC prototype for referencing
  • Prototype design of a personal emergency communications system
  • Protocols to operate a personal EOC, including activation to de-activation for a major earthquake or tropical cyclone
