National Consultant (Disaster Resilient Infrastructure)

The consultant should deliver satisfactorily completion of assignments below:

• Desk research on disaster resilient infrastructure from a national and global perspective to support the development of CDRI
• Concept Notes on different aspects of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure based on the outcomes of IWDRI 2019
• Preparation of substantive content for the CDRI website 
• Supporting technical meetings related to the development of the coalition
• Provisional programme and/or tentative agenda of IWDRI 2020 with necessary supporting documents and guidance of presentations for speakers

Duties and responsibilities

Investment in infrastructure is recognized as a key driver of sustainable development, economic growth and prosperity. Given the complexity of investing in disaster resilience of infrastructure systems with long life cycles, strong regional and international cooperation is required to harness global expertise and cross-share experiences among countries at various stages of infrastructure development, reconstruction, refurbishment and replacement. 

To support this process, the Government of India and the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR) are collaborating and working with partner countries and key stakeholders to establish a Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI). UNDRR is recruiting a National Consultant to support the Interim Secretariat of the CDRI.

• Prepare inputs and support analyses/studies on different aspects of disaster resilient infrastructure from a national and global perspective to support the development of Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI);
• Prepare concept notes on different aspects of Disaster Resilient Infrastructure based on the outcomes of International Workshop on Disaster Resilience Infrastructure (IWDRI) 2019;
• Prepare agendas and agenda papers, and ensure high quality documentation of technical meetings held towards establishment of CDRI and its activities;
• Develop technical inputs to the CDRI website;
• Be responsible for the technical logistics and coordination for the third International Workshop on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (IWDRI 2020);
• Liaise with the speakers, participants of meetings/events and provide guidance for their presentations;
• Track new developments in disaster and climate resilience of infrastructure and relevant fields

Qualifications/special skills

Academic Qualifications:

Minimum Master’s degree preferably in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning, Geography, Economics, Environment Engineering is required.

Experience:

At least 5 years of experience in climate or disaster risk management issues and/or development planning and fields relevant to infrastructure is required.

Language:

Fluency in English is required. Excellent writing skills demonstrated by papers, reports that the candidate has authored or co-authored is an advantage.
