Deputy PM Trinh Dinh Dung has signed Decision No. 705/QĐ-TTg on approving the update program on disaster risk areas, mapping natural disaster warning, especially natural disasters related to storms, storm surges, floods, flash floods, landslides, droughts and saltwater intrusion.

The program is aimed at evaluating the risks of all natural disasters within Viet Nam’s territory and establishing maps on areas of high risks of natural disasters and maps for natural disaster warning, particularly natural disasters such as storms, storm surges, floods, flash floods, landslides, droughts and saltwater intrusion, thus heading to propose measures to prevent and cope with natural disasters and set up a database system on disasters and disaster risks.

The program will be launched since 2018. In the phase from 2018-2020, it focuses on assessing and mapping disaster warnings and disaster hazards.

Viet Nam experienced unprecedentedly severe natural disasters in 2017, resulting in 386 people dead and missing and some VND 60 trillion (US$2.6 billion) worth of damage.
