Become a professional in areas related to emergency and disaster management, hazards management, public safety and homeland security. The Master of Arts in Emergency Management and Homeland Security (EMHS) degree program promotes stronger and more resilient communities by helping prepare our students to engage in the effective management of hazards and crises.
Emergency management degree students serve communities across the United States in either public, private or nonprofit sector organizations. Through collaboration among faculty, students and the practitioner community, we offer an online leading-edge program that addresses the complex array of 21st century challenges which require thoughtful and informed leadership.
Students have the option to choose one concentration from the following:
- biosecurity and threat management
- community resilience
- emergency management
- homeland security
Careers in emergency management and homeland security represent excellent opportunities for those interested in meaningful public service. There are numerous career opportunities at all levels of government, in a wide range of private-sector organizations, and in those nonprofit sector organizations with links to disaster-related services.
The program’s culminating experience, an applied project, provides opportunities for students to make direct and positive impacts in their home communities. By the end of the EMHS degree, graduates will have a well-developed understanding of central concepts and effective practices in the professional domains of emergency management and homeland security. The 33-credit hour program can be completed in as little as one year.
