The island of Guam will soon celebrate September as National Preparedness Month (NPM). Governor Eddie Baza Calvo will sign the NPM Proclamation on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at 11 a.m. (ChST) at Adelup, in the Cabinet Conference Room.

This year’s theme for National Preparedness Month is, “Don’t Wait. Communicate. Make your emergency plan today.” NPM is held each September. During the month, the community is encouraged to conduct preparedness actions, develop emergency plans with your community and family, know how to stay safe, and how you plan on communicating during an emergency situation. Governor Calvo’s declaration of National Preparedness Month provides an excellent opportunity to highlight Guam’s emergency management capabilities.

“This is a great opportunity for the island to follow the four building blocks of emergency preparedness: be informed, make a plan, build a kit, and get involved,” stated Charles Esteves, Office of Civil Defense Administrator.

This year’s National Preparedness Month will end with a Grand Finale on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at the Agana Shopping Center from 10:00am – 2:00pm (ChST). During the grand finale, there will be activities, booths, short skits, demonstrations and much more for disaster awareness.
