The Italian NGO Kito Onlus has organized, together with the Rural Health Unit and the Disaster Risk Reduction & Management Office of the Municipality of San Francisco, Camotes Island (Philippines) a three-week training on Health, Hygiene and Prevention, and has targeted, as pilot project, the community of the Island of Tulang Diot, located in the North-West of the main Island Pacijan. This is the first formal Water and Sanitation Hygiene Program implemented in the island after it was devastated by typhoon Haiyan.

The training's given in the program dealt with different topics, from basic hygiene tips (hand washing, safe drinking water methods), to family planning, food security, safe motherhood and infectious diseases. The main goal was to raise the awareness of the beneficiaries of the importance of basic hygiene practices for the whole family, with a particular focus on the health of the children, that are an important presence in the community: around the 30% of the total population is composed by children under 12 years old.
